David grew up w/ music in the family. His mother has been teaching classical violin for over three decades. She started teaching David classical violin at the age of two. He played a tiny cardboard violin that is now on eBay. The bids have almost reached a quarter million dollars.
David started learning guitar from his best friend (and one of his heros), Seth Folsom, at the age of thirteen. A year later, they won their first Battle of the Bands in their hometown of Greenville, NC. After that experience David decided music was his calling.
David attended Appalachian State University as a classical violin major for a year before deciding to transfer to Berklee College of Music in Boston and study jazz and guitar performance. He moved back home to NC after graduating in 2003. David also spent two semesters studying music at East Carolina University (this is where his true loyalty lies - he is often seen wearing a purple bandanna and randomly yelling, "Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!"....sometimes w/ an eyepatch covering one eye).
After touring for three years w/ the rock band phenomenon known as "Dystonic", David and John Ray (bass) joined the legendary Embers. He currently enjoys teaching fellow band members the art of the Dragon Tongue and having dance parties on the bus after shows.
David also teaches guitar lessons and hosts a Blues Night every Tuesday in Greenville, NC at Chef's 505.
