Glen Tippett

Vocals & Instrumentals

Glen Tippett was born and raised in Durham, NC where he graduated from Northern Durham High School. Starting on clarinet in Junior High, Glen transitioned into Alto Saxophone and then in High School, to Tenor Saxophone. He became very serious about music and earned his 1st chair in All State Band his senior year. Glen earned his Associate in Arts degree at Brevard College and later transferred to Appalachian State University, where he earned his Bachelor in Music Education with a Jazz Studies minor in 1993. In 1984, upon moving to Winston-Salem, NC, Glen began work at Duncan Music Co. as a sales rep for band instruments. From 1997-2000, he began teaching middle school band in Winston-Salem and Kernersville. After a promising start teaching, while also playing with Danville based Heartbeat of Soul Band, Glen met Tim Clark and his band in the summer of 2000. This prompted his decision to pursue performing full time. After 3 years with Tim Clark, Glen was recruited to the Coastline Band where he began a 16 year stint with the popular Carolina Beach Music staple. In 2019, Glen and two other band mates decided to form the CAT5 Band, a new and different band on the beach music scene. After suffering through Covid, CAT5 came back and swept the CBMA awards in 2021 with their biggest hit, “Beach and the Boulevard” which was led by Glen’s voice. Due to unforseen issues, sadly CAT5 had to call it quits in September 2024. After a few fill in shows and a long winter, Glen began talking to Craig Woolard about joining the Embers. Glen began playing with the Embers on March 7, 2025 and he is enjoying his time with them tremendously. Glen is the winner of 2 instrumentalist of the year awards and countless other group awards and song awards over the years at the Carolina Beach Music Awards. Glen has been a utility player over the years, playing keyboards, guitar, harmonica, flute and others aside from his main instrument of saxophone. He is excited and hopeful to bring his talents to The Embers and this amazing group of musicians!
